My Route To The Yukon (and back!)

So I’m about a month out from my Yukon road trip. I have been chipping away at some details that I thought I’d put up a quick post to share what the trip is shaping up to look like.

A part of me really wants this to be quite an explorative journey. Just figure it out as i I go… but I do also have some concrete timings I need to work out timings for, like being in Whitehorse for my week long Volunteering, and make it back to work (though I’m in testing phases for working while on the road)!

So I’ve made a effort to get something more concrete down, focused around what also locations have to offer!

    The Chosen Path

Here is a rough outline of the route I’m planning to take

    1. From Greater Vancouver I will head up to Stewart at the edge of the Alaskan border
    2. From there I head to Whitehorse, and onto Burwash Landing – Where I’ll be volunteering.
    3. My return sees me split away at Watson Lake to traverse the Northern Rockies
    4. I’ll then cross the ranges after a long southward bound sprint to Prince George
    5. From there I’ll turn back into the Rockies and hit various parks and locations
    6. Once through the ranges, I’ll be homeward bound.

The little flag symbols you see are points of Interest I may wish to check out (ignore Vancouver Island – that’s for another adventure). Naturally they gravitate to tourist regions, since much of these I collected from following travel influencers to get some basic ideas, but I did also take a few other approaches to finding spots

What I found really helpful was by simply navigating over the general area and searching for sightseeing / attractions on google maps, this helped me find new spots without “Influence”. This let me work out not only my path, but also a rough schedule too. Using ChatGPT helped in getting feedback on my travel timings and locations (along with anything I might be missing along the way).

I will of course keep searching and exploring , and adjust the plan as I go. Any suggestions also very welcome!

Note that I have not mapped any side quests on this overall map, though I have several of those planned too (Particularly to locations branching out from Whitehorse). Google maps simply only let’s me map 10 destinations in one go to show you as an overview.
